Bonding

mother and child
A reprint copy of Raja Ravi Varma’s painting “Krishna in the Lap of Mother Yashoda”

Stood below a banyan tree in the vicinity

On a cloudy night where lightning flickered

I envisaged the lighting across the street

Adorned to welcome the festival of light

And the wail of the newborn shrilled the air.

The roots set to bond deep

Through tap roots and prop roots

Offering to nourish and nurture

Nature leads and instincts act

And a mother is born.

Inquisitive

Sea

Inquisitive eyes searched

Listening to the roaring waves;

The unheard voices….

A celebration on a cold night

Friends, food and fun;

The renewed ties….

Caught us unaware

The warmth of the land suddenly strained;

The fury unleashed….

The sand and the weeds mysteriously disappeared

And the sea returned to claim its property;

The enigmatic space….

The wanderer in us turned pensive

Wading through the water;

A lifetime’s promise….

Mighty

The ink simply refused to flow,

When I picked up

My favourite Hero,

A Chinese make.

Black body with a golden cap

That faded with time

Yet reminding stood

The many exams battled –

And conquered smoothly;

The speed maintained

By my fingers holding gently

The thing of past now.

With no ink around

Water came to its rescue;

The nib reacted with a jerk or two –

Splashed a few drops

When pressed on to the paper;

A little scratch, then light and bright

“Life” it entered with a clear “if”.

The mighty hero a fighter till date

Refused to let go its valour

My pen, my companion.
