It’s surprising,
To be surprised
By surprises.
Surprise in giver and taker;
Surprises predictable and unpredictable;
Surprising someone with simple joys.
The empty pot, surprisingly
Sprang to life;
A gift that died with time, surprising
How we lost each other;
And her call that day, surprised
My representational self.
Indeed, it’s surprising
To be surprised
By surprises.
